heteroatom

is an atom in  organic molecule that is not a carbon atom or a hydrogen atom directly attached to the carbon chain.

heterocycle

a cyclic chain in which one or more carbon atoms are replaced by a nitrogen, oxygen or sulphur atom.

Hydrocarbon

an organic compound composed essentially of carbon atoms and hydrogen atoms. They are present in open , linear, branched form or cyclic chains.

hydroxyl group

a hydroxyl group is composed of an oxygen atom linked to a hydrogen atom (-OH).
